HomeLearn HypnosisHypnotherapy Certification

Hypnotherapy Certification can be earned through many different Hypnosis Organizations though it is not required by law in order to practice Hypnotherapy. That said it is important to have a Hypnotherapy Certification if you decide to start seeing clients. There are several different reasons which will be addressed below.

Why Hypnotherapy Certification

The first reason you really do need to have your Hypnotherapy Certification is for the training and learning required to earn your Certification. There are classes across the country that provide you with what you need to become certified, though they are not all the same. By attending a class of at least 100 hours, the hypnotherapy student should be able to learn what they need to know to start seeing clients as well as to earn their Hypnotherapy Certification.

Another reason that is it important to earn your Hypnotherapy Certification is for the credibility it gives you with your clients. When you have become certified you are allowed to include the specific designation after your name. This helps your clients to know that you do have training and have been accepted by an organization that specializes in Hypnotherapy Training.

Types of Hypnotherapy Certification

There are different types of certification, the most basic is probably what is called a Master Hypnotist. To the average person this may sound impressive, however this Hypnotherapy Certification requires minimal training. Some people offer this certification after a weekend class in hypnosis. I do not mean to imply that all Master Hypnotists are bad, I know some very talented and experienced Hypnotists, and even have a teacher who is a Master Hypnotist, however he also has 30 years experience as a hypnotherapist under his belt.

There is also what is known as a Certified Hypnotist which typically requires 50 to 100 hours of training and may include additional work outside the classroom in order to become certified. The training one receives for this Hypnotherapy Certification varies depending on the instructor. It is important to consider the training and experience of the instructor as well as factors such as their primary source of income. Do they work full time as a hypnotist? Do they also have other side jobs to support themselves? Do they continue to see clients or are they only teaching hypnosis?

The next Hypnotherapy Certification to be discussed is the Certified Hypnotherapist. This certification requires even more training and typically includes both classroom and self directed study. Two well known organizations that offer this Hypnotherapy Certification include the International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT) and the International Medical and Dental Hypnosis Association (IMDHA). IACT currently requires 220 total hours of training with 110 of those being in the classroom. IMDHA requires a total of 200 hours of training and 150 of those hours are required to be classroom instruction.

The final Hypnotherapy Certification to be discussed here is the Clinical Hypnotherapist. This certification requires a minimum of 300 classroom hours and the self directed study varies from 100 to 200 additional hours. This certification is offered through the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (ACHE), a well respected organization founded by Gil Boyne.

While certification is important, hypnotherapists find that the real training comes when they begin seeing clients. Each person who walks through the door provides a new opportunity to learn more about hypnosis. There are hypnotherapy schools across the country, though they are not all created equal. Here is a hypnotherapy school worth checking out, there are others as well, but this is one that is worth exploring. Classes are available in Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, Phoenix and Houston.

The instructor, Mark Johnson, has multiple certifications from different organizations and he has 20 years of teaching experience. Mark also has the experience working with clients and that means he understands what the Hypnotherapy student needs to know to be prepared to work with clients once they earn their certification.
